New homeschool scholarship in planning stage
Today we’ve listed a new homeschool scholarship currently in the fundraising stage. The Homeschool Post-Secondary Scholarship will be open to all homeschool students regardless of age. Anyone who would like to be a financial part of the scholarship program should contact Homeschool America for information.

Urgent need updates: one new + one need met
Today we’ve added two new updates to our urgent need requests for the spring semester. One is a new request for spring semester tuition from a student attending Northwestern College in St. Paul, MN. The other update is an answer to prayer by way of an unexpected scholarship for a student attending Columbia International University in Columbia, SC.

Three homeschooled students have posted financial need for the upcoming spring semester. It is our hope that homeschool families and perhaps alumni of the colleges the students are attending will help these young people stay in school. Colleges include Clearwater Christian College, Columbia International University and Trinity International University. If you are interested in helping one of these students, email us and we’ll provide you with the contact information. If you are a student still lacking funds for the upcoming semester, you are also invited to post your need. Email us, using the following format:
* Name: Full name; we will post only your three initials.
* Age: For this listing, you must be at least 18.
* Homeschooling: List number of years homeschooled, and whether or not you have a homeschool diploma.
* College: You must have already been accepted for the spring semester, and the college be expecting you.
* Cost of spring semester: List the total for tuition and room/board only.
* Remaining need for the spring semester: List what you still need in order to be able to enroll.
* Date: List the final date when your tuition must be paid.
* College contact information: Provide a name or office (with contact info) for verification of your status.
* College major and how you plan to use it: List your future plans. Maximum of two sentences.
* Accomplishments (optional): List up to five activities or awards that describe you.
* Reason for need (optional): You may include one reason as to why you have this need, such as illness, parent unemployment, etc. One sentence only.
We will not post your name or email address. If a potential donor contacts us about your situation, we will put you in touch with each other.
4 Texas colleges offer homeschool scholarships
Today we added a fourth Texas college that offers scholarships just for homeschooled students. Criswell College joins Houston Baptist University, Letourneau University and Tyndale Theological Seminary & Biblical Institute. Urgent need requests updated
We’ve updated our urgent need requests from students looking for financial help for the fall semester. To find out how their needs are being met, visit our Urgent Need for Fall page. We’ll be publishing urgent need requests (up to 20) for the spring semester beginning Dec. 1. If you’ve already been accepted by a college, but have remaining financial need, email us and we’ll publish your information. The following format should be followed:
- Name: Full name; we will post only your three initials.

Scholarships for non-college training programs?
Today we had a request for information on homeschool scholarships for non-college training programs, such as cosmetology school. We currently do not have knowlege of any, so are turning to our viewers to supply that information. If you know about any such scholarships, please email us and we’ll share that information on this site.
Northwest Workshop: Go to College for Free
Those who live in the Pacific Northwest may want to attend a special scholarship seminar next month, with accompanying workshops. The seminar, Go to College for Free, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 5 from 6:30 to 9pm, is free. The workshops, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13 are priced individually for students or families. Topics include “Get a Jumpstart on Creating a Scholarship Documents Notebook,” “Study Secrets & Tricks that Get Higher Grades & SAT/ACT Scores,” and “How to Prepare for & Take the SAT/ACT to Get Higher Scores.” The seminar and workshops are designed for students (and parents) in grades 9 and higher. Florida homeschool student/parent scholarships
A second college joins our list of homeschool scholarships available in Florida. The Tyndale Theological Seminary and Biblical Institute Learning Center of West Palm Beach offers a homeschool graduate scholarship that covers 50% of tuition. Tyndale goes a step further and offers a scholarship for homeschool parents majoring in Christian Education. The parent scholarship covers 100% of tuition.
Other homeschool scholarships available in Florida include those offered by Hobe Sound Bible College and four annual $1,000 homeschool scholarships offered by the Florida Home Educators Association.

New–California Homeschool Scholarship
Today we list a third homeschool scholarship offered by California colleges and universities. William Jessup University joins San Diego Christian College and Simpson University in offering a scholarship just for homeschoolers. This is a competitive $5,000 renewable scholarship awarded to a first-time freshman each year who has completed all four years of high school through a homeschool program. Writing lots of essays? Win this contest!
If you’ve spent the last year writing essays for scholarship competitions, you may have already won the contest we’ve just added to our Etc. category. The Homeschool Writer of the Year title is based on the number of essays you submitted, whether you won the competitions or not. The deadline is Nov. 30, 2010.
We also added a regional homeschool competition for those of you who live in the Fort Bragg, NC area. The Home School Spelling Bee has a category just for high schoolers. It will be held Oct. 22, 2010.
