Connecting donors & students with urgent need for fall semester

We have a friend who graduated from a homeschool two years ago, without the financial means to attend college. He’s an outstanding kid, with a big heart and honorable character. We kept thinking that if enough people knew about this need, they would have helped him get to college.

Knowing there are many out there this year in the same situation, we’re going to try something new. We want to connect those students with people who can help out. We will list, for up to 20 students, financial need for this upcoming semester. Potential donors would send funds directly to the college. If you still have an urgent need for the 2010 fall semester, here is what you need to submit:

  • Name: Full name; we will post only your three initials.
  • Age: For this listing, you must be at least 18.
  • Homeschooling: List number of years homeschooled, and whether or not you have a homeschool diploma.
  • College: You must have already been accepted for the fall semester, and the college be expecting you.
  • Cost of fall semester: List the total for tuition and room/board only.
  • Remaining need for the fall semester: List what you still need in order to be able to enroll.
  • Date: List the final date when your tuition must be paid.
  • College contact information: Provide a name or office (with contact info) for verification of your status.
  • College major and how you plan to use it: List your future plans. Maximum of two sentences.
  • Accomplishments (optional): List up to five activities or awards that describe you.
  • Reason for need (optional): You may include one reason as to why you have this need, such as illness, parent unemployment, etc. One sentence only.

We will not post your name or email address. If a potential donor contacts us about your situation, we will put you in touch with each other.

If we receive an overwhelming response to this post, we will consider creating a category on our forum specifically for this purpose.

We will post the listings no later than midnight on Aug. 9.
